What is cPanel Hosting?
For your information, it's useful to know that most of the cPanel website hosting offers on the present web hosting marketplace are furnished by a quite insignificant marketing segment (as far as annual cash flow is concerned) known as reseller hosting. Reseller website hosting is a type of a small business segment, which provides a vast quantity of different web hosting brand names, yet furnishing strictly the same solutions: mostly cPanel web hosting services. This is bad news for everyone. Why? Because at least ninety eight percent of the website hosting offers on the whole web hosting market furnish exactly the same solution: cPanel. There's no diversity at all. Even the cPanel-based website hosting prices are identical. Very much alike. Giving those who require a top web hosting service almost no other web hosting platform/CP alternative. Thus, there is just one single fact: out of more than 200,000 web hosting brand names all over the world, the non-cPanel based ones are less than two percent! Less than 2%, remark that one...
Two hundred thousand "website hosting suppliers", all cPanel-based, yet uniquely branded
The website hosting "diversity" and the hosting "offers" Google reveals to us boil down to just one solution: cPanel. Under hundreds of 1000's of different web hosting brand names. Assume you are merely a regular fellow who's not very well aware of (as the majority of us) with the web site making procedures and the web hosting platforms, which in fact power the various domain names and websites. Are you ready to make your hosting decision? Is there any web hosting variant you can choose? Sure there is, at the moment there are more than two hundred thousand website hosting service providers in existence. Formally. Then where is the problem? Here's where: more than ninety eight percent of these more than two hundred thousand different website hosting brand names in the world will give you strictly the same cPanel website hosting Control Panel and platform, named in a different way, with literally the same price tags! WOW! That's how big the diversity on the present-day website hosting market is... Full stop.
The website hosting LOTTERY we are all participating in
Simple mathematics reveals that to select a non-cPanel based web hosting corporation is an immense stroke of fortune. There is a less than one in fifty chance that a thing like that will occur! Less than one in 50...
The strong and weak sides of the cPanel website hosting solution
Let's not be pitiless with cPanel. After all, in the years 2001-2004 cPanel was modern and possibly fulfilled all web hosting market demands. To put it briefly, cPanel can do the trick if you have just a single domain to host. But, if you have more domain names...
Negative Sign Number 1: An imbecilic domain folder structure
If you have 2 or more domains, though, be extremely careful not to delete completely the add-on ones (that's how cPanel will dub each next hosted domain name, which is not the default one: an add-on domain name). The files of the add-on domains are very easy to delete on the web server, since they all are situated into the root folder of the default domain name, which is the very well known public_html folder. Each add-on domain is a folder placed inside the folder of the default domain name. Like a sub-folder. Next time attempt not to remove the files of the add-on domain names, please. Observe for yourself how fabulous cPanel's domain folder setup is:
public_html (here my-default-domain.com is situated)public_html/my-family (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-second-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-third-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-third-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/rebeka (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/rebeka.my-third-wife.net (a sub-domain of an add-on domain)
Are you becoming bewildered? We definitely are!
Disadvantage Number Two: The very same electronic mail folder structure
The electronic mail folder structure on the hosting server is exactly the same as that of the domains... Repeating the same mistake twice?!? The admin blokes firmly fortify their faith in God when handling the electronic mail folders on the email server, hoping not to muck things up too seriously.
Weak Point No.3: A sheer lack of domain name administration interfaces
Do we have to point out the complete absence of a contemporary domain name manipulation user interface - a place where you can: register/transfer/renew/park or administer domain names, modify domain names' Whois information, protect the Whois information, change/set up nameservers (DNS) and Domain Name System records? cPanel does not include such a "contemporary" interface at all. That's a colossal inconvenience. An unforgivable one, we would like to add...
Drawback Number 4: Numerous user login locations (min two, max 3)
What about the necessity for an additional login to utilize the invoice transaction, domain name and tech support management software solution? That's aside from the cPanel account login credentials you've been already supplied by the cPanel website hosting service provider. At times, depending on the billing tool (principally developed for cPanel only) the cPanel website hosting service provider is using, the avid clients can end up with two additional logins (1: the invoicing transaction/domain administration tool; 2: the trouble ticket support section), ending up with a total of three user login places (counting cPanel).
Problem Number 5: More than 120 Control Panel menus to memorize... quickly
cPanel presents for your consideration 120+ menus inside the web hosting Control Panel. It's a remarkable idea to become familiar with each and every one of them. And you'd better learn them briskly... That's way too impudent on cPanel's side.
With all due respect, we have a rhetorical question for all cPanel website hosting firms:
As far as we are informed, it's not the year 2001, is it? Remark that one as well...
